I truly appreciate your letter. A bit of common sense in an "oh so politically correct" discussion. I worked for and with aboriginal communities for the first 25 years of my career in Northern Alberta. Those communities were both loving and tight knit and hugely troubled at the same time. Sadly, with only a few exceptions they remain places that suffer from drugs, violence, poverty and really poor infrastructure and services. In my distant past I can claim a bit of aboriginal blood, My family integrated into the Canadian mainstream three generations ago. I and my siblings are proud of our melting pot heritage. But we don't want to try to turn back the clock. So thanks for speaking the truth to power on this subject. I find more than a little irony in Minister Bennett's comments about you knowledge base, but then academics from downtown Toronto sometimes think they invented the truth.
