Senator Beyak,

I am writing to applaud you for having the courage to say that not all those who taught in residential schools were monsters but that many of them genuinely cared for the children in their care and were trying to help them. My mother has a cousin who attended a residential and whenever she is asked about it she tells that her experience was a good one, in fact she credits the residential school system with having provided her the opportunity to have a good education. Her experience in residential school was so good that when the federal government offered a blanket cash settlement to all former attendees, she refused to take it.

All this to say that I believe you spoke the truth and should not be facing the assault you are. I want you to know that I support you and the comments you made.

Kind regards,
