Sen Beyak:

The very unfair negative comments and reporting of them does a disservice to the native peoples of Canada.  Much good was done at Residential Schools that were set up to give the Indian youth a chance to learn and be part of modern society.  They didn’t have to attend but their elders supported the offer of the government to help them.

Their was no other way to bring them to learn the ways of the english language of the new society.  I wonder how much of their complaints of abuse was not wishing to conform to discipline and being away from home and not actual sexual.  Of course in any society sexual abuse happens to youth and it would have been at the schools.  One only would need to look at their own people and ask if it happens on their reserves.

Thank you for bringing the out.
